We will focus this class on the rhetoric of “transformation” as it is found in proximity to changing pedagogy and, indeed, some of the fundamentals of education. In particular, we will look at debates around the advent of so-called Massively Open Online Courses, or MOOCs. Are MOOCs unequivocally good or bad for education? And is DH complicit in the rise of the MOOC, as some have seemingly alleged? And is digital humanities too focused on research at the expense of teaching? Does it have to be?
