Traveling from Nearby Airports

The three major airports in the Washington area are Reagan Washington National (DCA), Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall (BWI), and Washington Dulles International (IAD). DCA is the most accessible from College Park, while IAD is the least.

You can use the area’s Metrorail system to travel between all three major airports and the UMD College Park campus. The College Park Metro Station is located on River Road off Paint Branch Parkway, approximately 1 mile from campus, and is serviced by the UMD Campus Shuttle on weekdays. From Reagan Washington National (DCA)

It is easiest to take the Metro to campus from DCA. Follow the signs in the airport to the Metrorail station and take the Yellow Line north (towards Georgia Ave/Petworth). Get off at L’Enfant Plaza and change to the Green Line. Take the Green Line North towards Greenbelt and get off at the College Park–University of Maryland stop. After exiting the turnstiles, make a left to exit the station and ascend to ground level. From the bus loop, use the Number 104 University of Maryland shuttle (if arriving on a weekday) to the Adele H. Stamp Student Union. From there, you will be ideally located between the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center and Edward St. John Learning & Teaching Center, where conference activities will take place.

From Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall (BWI)

Take the BWI Express Metro Bus (number B30) from the airport to the Greenbelt Metrorail station. Take the Green Line south one stop to the College Park–University of Maryland station. After exiting the turnstiles, make a left to exit the station and ascend to ground level. From the bus loop, use the Number 104 University of Maryland shuttle to the Adele H. Stamp Student Union (if arriving on a weekday). From there, you will be ideally located between the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center and Edward St. John Learning & Teaching Center, where conference activities will take place.

From Washington Dulles International (IAD)

Take the Washington Flyer from the airport to the West Falls Church Metro Station. Take the Orange Line east towards New Carrollton. Get off at L’Enfant Plaza and change to the Green Line. Take the Green Line North towards Greenbelt and get off at the College Park–University of Maryland stop. From the bus loop, use the Number 104 University of Maryland shuttle to the Adele H. Stamp Student Union (if arriving on a weekday). From there, you will be ideally located between the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center and Edward St. John Learning & Teaching Center, where conference activities will take place.

Driving to Campus

From Baltimore and Points North: Take I-95 South to Washington, DC’s Capital Beltway (I-495). Take Exit 27 and then follow signs to exit 25 (U.S. 1 South toward College Park). Proceed approximately two miles south on U.S. Route 1. Turn right onto Campus Drive and proceed through Main Gate.

From Virginia and Points South: Take I-95 North to Washington, DC’s Capital Beltway (I-495). Continue North on I-95 / I-495 toward Baltimore. Take exit 25 (U.S. 1 South toward College Park). Proceed approximately two miles south on U.S. Route 1. Turn right onto Campus Drive and proceed through Main Gate.

From Virginia and Points West: Take I-66 East or I-270 South to Washington, DC’s Capital Beltway (I-495). Go East on I-495 toward Baltimore / Silver Spring. Take exit 25 (U.S. 1 South toward College Park). Proceed approximately two miles south on U.S. Route 1. Turn right onto Campus Drive and proceed through Main Gate.

From Annapolis and Points East: Take U.S. 50 to Washington, DC’s Capital Beltway (I-495). Go North on I-95 / I-495 toward Baltimore. Take Exit 25 (U.S. 1 South toward College Park). Proceed approximately two miles south on U.S. Route 1. Turn right onto Campus Drive and proceed through Main Gate.

From Washington, DC, Northwest or Southwest: Take 16th St. North which becomes Georgia Ave. North at the Maryland / DC line. Go East on I-495 toward Baltimore. Take exit 25 (U.S. 1 South toward College Park). Proceed approximately two miles south on U.S. Route 1. Turn right onto Campus Drive and proceed through Main Gate.

From Washington, DC, Northeast or Southeast: Take Rhode Island Ave. (U.S. 1 North) which becomes Baltimore Ave. North at the Maryland/D.C. line. Proceed through the city of College Park. Turn left onto Campus Drive and proceed through Main Gate.

Local Travel

Metro Rail and Campus Shuttle

The UMD shuttle services the campus and several of the surrounding areas, free of charge. Route number 104 also services the College Park–University of Maryland Metrorail station on weekdays, approximately every 20-30 minutes. At the Metro, the shuttle picks up and drops off on the east side of the station (when you exit the turnstiles, turn left to exit the station and ascend to ground level). On campus, the shuttle picks up and drops off directly in front of the Adele H. Stamp Student Union (Building #163 on the campus map). From there, you will be ideally located between the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center and Edward St. John Learning & Teaching Center, where conference activities will take place.

Metro Bus

The College Park and greater DC area are serviced by an extensive bus system. The College Park campus, in particular, is accessible by several major and local bus routes, including the C2, 83, 86, C8, and F6. Ride Share

Ride share services, including both Lyft and Uber, operate widely in College Park and the greater DC metropolitan area (including all three major airports) .

Biking

mBike is a bike share program owned by UMD and the City of College Park, and managed by Zagster. Trips are $3 per hour for non-members, while members receive discounted rates. You can read more about biking at UMD here, or learn more about the mBike program here.
