Religious Dancing, 1948

"Graceful figures are not required in this dance, which can be danced in any old way, so long as the 'soul' is in it. Sayo Kitamura 49, 'The Great Goddess' of the 'Dancing Religion' came to Tokyo from her divine abode in Tafuse, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Wednesday morning. Arriving at Mejiro Station she at once gave a street demonstration in front of the station with about 30 believers, of all ages and walks of life, breaking out into a sort of chant, calling it the 'Dance of Ecstasy.' She said: 'A nation infested by maggots has fallen. Our land of God was born on August 15...I don't like Ashida because he won't let us eat.' Picture shows the 'Dance of Ecstasy' in full swing."
