Occupied Japan 1945 - 1952: Gender, Class, Race

Shiseido Cosmetics Advertisement, 1946

"By 1946, posters were employing hopeful images and brighter colors to take viewers' minds off scarcities and the ordeals of queuing for basic necessities. Shiseido began advertising again, and this poster by Omi Tadashi (died 1959) was intended to provide a psychological lift as well as sell beauty products." [Site Ed. Note: The woman featured in this poster is film star Hara Setsuko.]
