Penny Ridgway, wife of the newly appointed Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers, General Matthew B. Ridgway. Here she is welcomed by Japanese soprano Tsunahara Mieko at a tea ceremony on May 17, 1951. While in Japan, Mrs. Ridgway took instruction in ikebana (flower arrangement).
