"Until We Meet Again was named best film for 1951 by film magazine Kinema Jumpō. Directed by Imai Tadashi and shot in smoky, silvery black and white, it depicts the tragic love of a young woman for a man who has received his draft notice and is going off to war. The hidden passion of the lovers is shown in a famous scene in which they kiss through a glass window." The film also made an anti-war statement: the young woman would die in an air raid and the young man in battle. At this point, apparently, kissing on screen was integral to the story line and no longer controversial.
