Michiko's Graduation Day

Graduation Day, March 1953, for Shada Michiko, future commoner bride of Crown Prince Akihio. She majored in English Literature at Sacred Heart University. Here is the English ode to Miss Shoda, inscribed in her yearbook:

"Head of our Student Government,
Her every task she carried through,
A respected and dignified President,
In responsibilities most true.
Humble and kind to one and all,
She has won her way into all our hearts;
She's not only queen of the tennis court,
But a leader who College spirit imparts."
From: Kōtaishi Denka Shōda (Commemoration of the Crown Prince’s Wedding). Tokyo: International Cultural Pictorial, Special Edition, 1959.
