Preparing to Present at #AADHum2018

We hope you are as excited as we are about your work and its upcoming presentation at the #AADHum2018 Intentionally Digital, Intentionally Black conference! The following information is intended to help you prepare your work for presentation, whether in paper, panel, roundtable, poster, or demo format.

Presentation Expectations: As you prepare your individual presentations (as part of paper sessions or paper panels), we ask you to limit your talk to a maximum of 12 MINUTES. Our moderators will remind you when you have 5, 2 and 1 minute(s) remaining.  Please be mindful and respectful of their remaining time indicators so that we will have plenty of time for Q&A and further discussion.

Audio/Visual Equipment:

If you are presenting as part of a paper session, panel, or roundtable, your presentation room will be equipped with: an Internet-connected PC, a projector screen, and an HDMI hookup. You are strongly encouraged to save and store your presentation in a way that enables you to access it easily, e.g. via USB drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, or other cloud-based platform. If you choose to bring your own personal computer for presentation purposes, please bring any additional adapters or equipment necessary to ensure the success of your presentation.

If you are presenting your work in a Tools or Project Demonstration, your presentation room will be similarly equipped with: an Internet-connected PC, a projector screen, and an HDMI hookup. If a presentation file supplements your digital tool or project, you are strongly encouraged to save and store that file in a way that enables you to access it easily, e.g. via USB drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, or other cloud-based platform. If you choose to bring your own personal computer for presentation purposes, please bring any additional adapters or equipment necessary to ensure the success of your presentation.

If you are presenting a Digital Poster, your presentation room is equipped with display monitors, each measuring approximately 45 inches in diagonal. Each monitor is equipped with an HDMI hookup, which enables both video display and audio transmission. Please bring an appropriate device (i.e. laptop and any necessary adapters) to connect to the display monitor, in order for you to project and share your work.

Conference Schedule & Locations: You can find the full and up-to-date conference schedule here. Please make note of the time and location of your presentation. Maps of conference venues will be available at conference check-in.

Online Engagement: Please be mindful of presenters’ privacy when it comes to sharing photos, video, and other presentation content from conference sessions, and abide by any expressed wishes to keep certain content offline. When you do post about the conference on social media, please include #AADHum2018 and tag @UMD_AADHum in your posts and tweets.

Conference Repository: We are encouraging presenters to share their presentation materials in our conference repository, Humanities Commons (HC), to help us document the conference. Instructions for creating an HC account may be found on their website. Presenters with an account can upload their materials to the CORE repository within HC to make them accessible. We ask that you tag your uploads with ‘aadhum2018’ at the time of deposit so that we can find them. For more information about the conference repository, see this page.

If you have any additional questions or require special accommodations, please contact us at aadhum@umd.edu.

We wish you safe travels, and we look forward to welcoming you to the University of Maryland, College Park!
