Bio: I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland iSchool and University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies. I am affiliated with Computer Science, the Computational Linguistics and Information Processing lab, and Language Science. Previously, I was a graduate student at Princeton with David Blei. I'm interested in applying statistical models (particularly latent variable approaches) to natural language applications in ways that interact with humans, learn from humans, or help us understand humans. My PhD thesis was on adding linguistic assumptions to topic models (one example of a latent variable model for text).
