Hildegard of Bingen born 1098, died 1179 Hildegard of Bingen was a German nun whose medical knowledge was centuries ahead of her time. She wrote several volumes which were considered by many to be the most valuable medical and scientific texts of the Middle Ages. Her works include Liber Subtilitatum, De Simplicis Medicinae, and Causae et Curae. She stressed herbal remedies and natural healing methods. Additionally, Hildegard of Bingen was a scholar, a musician and composer, and a political and religious leader.
