Gender & Southeast Asia Conference Call for Papers

Ambassador Hotel, Bangkok
March 28-29, 2004
A 2-day conference on Gender & Southeast Asia will follow immediately after the course.

The conference combines academics and activism, providing a forum to share knowledge and experience, to build a network, and to develop joint strategies. Papers and presentations focus on experiences and “lessons learned” in relation to gender in development work within the region.

This year’s conference will focus on the role of women NGOs and gender issues in human rights, legal rights and reproductive rights in Southeast Asia. We invite you to share case studies of gender mainstreaming efforts and social development strategies for gender integration in such areas as health, politics and education. Papers on other development-related issues such as trade, natural resources management, HIV/AIDS, violence against women, trafficking and prostitution are also welcome.

This is an opportunity for course participants and other researchers, NGO/GO practitioners and support agencies to share and promote the findings of their research work or field experiences related to gender. Workshop-type panels focusing on particular skill building efforts are welcome. Regional groups or funding agencies could also propose to organize a parallel or follow-up workshop/mini-conference in this occasion.

We encourage you to submit abstracts, papers and proposals as soon as possible. Papers presented will be made available to all participants at the conference.

Conference registration fee is USD250. WARI is unable to provide funding support. Participants are responsible for their fee payments and other expenditure.
