{"id":9021,"date":"2012-09-04T08:00:50","date_gmt":"2012-09-04T12:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mith.umd.edu\/?p=9021"},"modified":"2020-10-08T16:01:01","modified_gmt":"2020-10-08T20:01:01","slug":"digital-mishnah-live-demo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mith.umd.edu\/digital-mishnah-live-demo\/","title":{"rendered":"Digital Mishnah: Live Demo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am pleased to say that with a lot of work on a lot of people\u2019s part, there is now a<a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalmishnah.org\/demo\/\"> live demo of the Digital Mishnah Project<\/a>. The demo is just that: a demonstration of possible functionalities.This post will outline some of the features that were always meant to be temporary and some new planned or desired features, and then invite comments.<\/p>\n<h3>What will be changed<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The selection of witnesses. Entering numerals is unwieldy. Ideally, users should be able to slide text \u201cicons\u201d around (as one does with a pivot table in Excel, for instance)<\/li>\n<li>Output in browse functions. A single chapter was used for the demo version. Future versions will allow users to select specific chapters and\/or specific ms pages and progress by page or chapter. Metadata should perhaps be hideable.<\/li>\n<li>Output in collate functions. The demo groups output together; these are actually alternative functions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Additional basic functionalities<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to download or print results.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to \u00a0compare longer texts (whole chapters)<\/li>\n<li>Improved collation\u2013and\/or the ability to select alternative collation methods<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Desiderata<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Statistical tools, such as multi-dimensional scaling and clustering, to group manuscripts and display results<\/li>\n<li>Since there will inevitably be errors in collation, ability to correct alignment and re-run various operations<\/li>\n<li>Dynamic synoptic view, in which two or more witnesses can be viewed in parallel columns, with the ability to highlight textual differences or other features.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Hayim Lapin is Robert H.
