The goals of<a href=\"http:\/\/endangereddataweek.org\/\"> Endangered Data Week<\/a> are to promote care for endangered collections by publicizing the availability of datasets; increasing critical engagement with them, including through visualization and analysis; and by encouraging political activism for open data policies and the fostering of data skills through workshops on curation, documentation and discovery, improved access, and preservation.<\/p>\n<\/div><style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-1 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:20px;\"><h2 class=\"title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;\">2018 Endangered Data Week Events<\/h2><\/div><style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-2 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-three\" style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:5px;\"><h3 class=\"title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;\">Interdisciplinary Panel &amp; Practitioner Lightning Talks<\/h3><\/div><style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-3 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-four\" style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:10px;\"><h4 class=\"title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;\"><p>February 26, 1 \u2013 4 PM<br \/>\nSpecial Events Room, McKeldin Library<\/p><\/h4><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><p>This panel of diverse disciplinary representatives invites participants to discuss the definitions of data, practices of data collection, ethical considerations and threats against data. Viewed in concert with each other, these domain perspectives will aid us in understanding the complex environment of research data preservation and the numerous dangers that can threaten the long-term usability, sustainability, and discoverability of this information. This workshop will feature two segments: first, an overview of data preservation topics will familiarize participants with the core practices of data stewardship in individual practices and within the University community.
