{"id":13475,"date":"2014-12-17T09:40:08","date_gmt":"2014-12-17T14:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mith.umd.edu\/?p=13475"},"modified":"2020-10-08T16:00:23","modified_gmt":"2020-10-08T20:00:23","slug":"neh-sloan-award-funds-university-maryland-dartmouth-host-crowdsourcing-workshop-may-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mith.umd.edu\/neh-sloan-award-funds-university-maryland-dartmouth-host-crowdsourcing-workshop-may-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"NEH and Sloan award funds to University of Maryland and Dartmouth to host crowdsourcing workshop in May 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The NEH has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.neh.gov\/divisions\/odh\/grant-news\/neh-awards-cooperative-agreement-dartmouth-college-and-university-maryland-\">announced the award<\/a> of a Cooperative Agreement to Dartmouth College and University of Maryland for a May 2015 event entitled \u201cEngaging the Public: Best Practices for Crowdsourcing Across the Disciplines.\u201d \u00a0In addition to support from NEH, additional funds have been provided through a generous grant from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sloan.org\/\">Alfred P. Sloan Foundation<\/a> to support travel and attendance costs for additional attendees. MITH Director Neil Fraistat and Andrea Wiggins, Assistant Professor in the UMD iSchool, will work as Co-PIs with Mary Flanagan at Dartmouth to plan the workshop, which will occur at The University of Maryland from May 6-8, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop will culminate and then broaden the conversation begun in the two small face-to-face regional meetings and two webinars that are taking place through the auspices of Dartmouth\u2019s 2014 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imls.gov\/\">Institute for Museum and Library Services<\/a>-funded <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crowdconsortium.org\/\">National Forum in Crowdsourcing for Libraries and Archives: Creating a Crowdsourcing Consortium <\/a>(CCLA), also directed by Flanagan. Through this 2 \u00bd day capstone event, 50 scholars will be brought together from several disciplines as well as representatives from 10 funding agencies in order to consolidate the earlier work of CCLA and seek to advance a truly national, cross-disciplinary agenda.
