These kinds of dynamic interfaces are what end\u00a0users are starting to expect of their interactions. Trevor Owens,\u00a0digital archivist at the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program\u00a0(NDIIPP) in the Office of Strategic Initiatives at the Library of Congress\u00a0and a doctoral student in the Graduate School of Education at George Mason University,\u00a0\u00a0will open a discussion of the way these kinds of interfaces\u00a0change the way curators, librarians, archivists, researchers and\u00a0general public see materials in these collections. To ground this\u00a0discussion in a concrete example, the presentation will focus on one\u00a0NDIIPP project, Recollection. Recollection is \u00a0a free platform built\u00a0by Zepheira LLC for the Library of Congress which empowers historians,\u00a0librarians, archivists and curators to create and customize views,\u00a0(interactive maps, timelines, facets, tag clouds) of digital\u00a0collections. The demonstration will show how the software can import\u00a0collections from spreadsheets or MODS records, augment and transform\u00a0that data online, generate distinct interactive visual interfaces, and\u00a0ultimately copy-paste to embed the interfaces they design in any\u00a0webpage. The discussion of this specific tool will serve as a place to\u00a0ground a broader general discussion of the possibilities and\u00a0implications of these kinds of dynamic interfaces to collections.<\/p>\n<p>TREVOR OWENS is a digital archivist at the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program\u00a0(NDIIPP) in the Office of Strategic Initiatives at the Library of Congress\u00a0and a doctoral student in the Graduate School of Education at George Mason University. He is interested in online communities, games and learning, and digital tools and practices for humanities scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>All talks free and open to the public!
