Driskell Center for the Study of the Visual Arts and Culture of African Americans and the African Diaspora at the University of Maryland, College Park, since at least 2001. With the Driskell Center, MITH has coordinated two poetry slams (<a href=\"\/\/mith.umd.edu\/research\/hughes100\/\">Hughes@100<\/a> and the <a href=\"\/\/mith.umd.edu\/research\/gwendolyn-brooks-poetry-slam\/\">Gwendolyn Brooks Poetry Slam<\/a>), a project aimed at enhancing history education (<a href=\"\/\/mith.umd.edu\/research\/rethinking-the-americas-teaching-history\/\">Rethinking the Americas Teaching History<\/a>), and a conference on\u00a0African American\/African diaspora studies and digital humanities (<a href=\"\/\/mith.umd.edu\/research\/digital-diasporas\/\">Digital Diasporas<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The Driskell Center honors the legacy of David C. Driskell &#8211; Distinguished University Professor Emeritus of Art, Artist, Art Historian, Collector, and Curator &#8211; by preserving the rich heritage of African American visual art and culture. Established in 2001, the Center provides an intellectual home for artists, museum professionals, art administrators, and scholars, who are interested in broadening the field of African Diasporic studies.
