Yes, this is a picture of me on a bridge on my most recent trip to China. Why am I holding a wallet? Well, this bridge happens to be a tourist attraction. If you look closely, in the back there are crowds of people. Behind the old-looking houses are in fact a lively and crowded marketplace full of small souvenirs, toys, furniture, food, silk goods, etc. I came on this bridge after I visited one side of stores to visit the other end of the marketplace; I held my wallet out of convenience. Why is the wallet so big? Well, sadly, many cities in China are known for suspicious purse stealing and wallet grabbing. As a safety precaution, I took a larger wallet so I would not loose it as easily as I would a small one. The boats on the river belong to the civilians who live in that area -- the people use the boats to get from place to place. My awkward lean out of the bridge was an attempt to have the photographer capture not only the bridge, but the houses to the right of it. Speaking practically, why would I hold the wallet in plain sight if it was a sought after item? With all the people there I would be in the water rather than on the bridge within seconds. While this was an interesting and exciting proposal, I will have to say this photograph merely captures a great memory from a vacation abroad.
